Viking in paradise

Aloha!

 

My name is Ingvild and I am a senior majoring in journalism. I am from Norway and this is my third year living in Hawaii. I am a member of the women´s basketball team at HPU and love that I have the chance to play the sport I love as well as getting a degree. I chose to study in Hawaii to explore and see a new place of the world that I had never seen before. I wanted to do something different as a student and studying in Hawaii gives you the ultimate opportunity to see and be a part of many different cultures besides studying. Oahu has so much to offer as long as you are willing to step out of the touristy areas. Exploring the island and finding secret spots is just some of the activities I like to do between school, practice and socializing.

 

Besides exploring the island, I also chose Hawaii and HPU because I heard that the journalism and communications program was/is very good. Now that I have taking a few more upper division classes I am really enjoying the knowledge the teacher’s at the university has to offer and that most of them have hands-on experience from the field.

 

In the future I hope to travel and work within the media. I want to see new places, meet people from other cultures and learn about them, and capturing moments that are different from what we see in travel commercials and magazines. We always see the tourist-side of a country but what about the true side of a place that we never hear about?
